Buoy project credited with making fishing safer in Western Alaska and helping hunters land whales

Alaska Public Media reports Nalaquq deployed three Backyard Buoys in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta to give residents real-time wave and weather data in an easy app labeled by local place names. The project is already helping safer travel for boaters and whaling crews, and it’s expanding to more villages with plans for Native-language support.
